Uma Thurman, Arpad Busson engaged

Uma Thurman is engaged to long-time boyfriend, financier Arpad Busson. (Click for more photos of Uma Thurman in her most famous movie roles.)
Uma Thurman, who played the sword-wielding Bride in "Kill Bill," is taking another stab at marriage, now that financier Arpad (Arki) Busson has proposed, her rep confirmed to the Daily News.
Busson, who has two children with supermodel Elle Macpherson, just presented Thurman with a engagement ring so big "she can't fit it through the sleeve of her coat," a friend said.
Thurman showed off the honkin' sparkler Thursday night at Elton Johns British manor house, where he's throwing his 10th White Tie and Tiara benefit.
"All the ladies' eyes were buggin' out," said a spy at the Chopard-sponsored bash.
Thurman's spokesman confirmed the betrothal to the News.
A friend of her family said, "It's a done deal. They're already planning the wedding."
The couple hit it off last year at a dinner in Milan. She was coming off a three-year relationship with hotelier Andre Balazs.
She was also feeling the aftershocks of her divorce from cheating second husband Ethan Hawke. (Her marriage to actor Gary Oldman ended in 1992.
"Uma was dealing with visitation issues with her two kids with Ethan," said a friend. "Arky was going through the same thing with Elle. They bonded."
Busson surprised Thurman with the ring this week in London, where the couple attended a star-studded 90th birthday party for Nelson Mandela. "It was a really old-fashioned romantic gesture," said a friend.
"Everyone is so happy for Uma after what she went through with that stalker," added the pal, referring to Thurman's recent court ordeal with obsessed fan Jack Jordan. "Arki is a guy who can take care of her."
Thurman's romance with the Busson created some tension with her friend Macpherson, according to some reports.
The Aussie beauty, who was also at Elton's party, is bound to have some thoughts on Busson's interest in walking to the altar with Thurman, 38.
Busson proposed to Macpherson shortly after they announced in 2002 that they were expecting their second child, Aurelius Cy.
But, a few months after his birth, they parted. According to reports, Busson, a devout Catholic, refused to marry a divorcee, despite their out-of-wedlock children.
"Uma is hoping this time, it's really love," said the friend. "Everyone wants the best for her. And Arki is a really sweet guy."
Busson, born in 1963 in Switzerland, heads the EIM investment company, which manages assets of over $13 billion, according to the company.
The moneyman, who also dated Farah Fawcett, has homes in London and the Bahamas. In 2006, Tatler magazine voted him the seventh-most wanted person at a party.
Busson has also raised millions for children at risk through his Absolute Return for Kids charity.

Britney house-hunting for bigger backyard, quiet

LOS ANGELES - Court records show Britney Spears is house-hunting — preferably for something greener, quieter and with a bigger backyard. Documents released Monday show that Spears seeks a house with a larger yard that's closer to parks and recreation areas for her children, Sean Preston and Jayden James. She also wants a "less trafficked" locale than her paparazzi-stalked Beverly Hills home, which she bought for nearly $7 million early last year.
Spears' father, James, requested the sale in mid-June, and a court commissioner agreed. James Spears is acting as his daughter's conservator following several incidents of erratic behavior by the 26-year-old singer.
The children's father, Kevin Federline, has custody.

Bonham Carter joins the "Terminator" cast

NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - Helena Bonham Carter could soon be joining the battle between man and cyborg. The British actress is in talks to board "Terminator Salvation," the fourth installment in the franchise kicked off by James Cameron in 1984. Roles in the new film have been kept under wraps, but insiders described the Bonham Carter role as small but pivotal.
Principal photography on the movie, which looks at the origins of the battle between humans and Skynet, started last month in New Mexico, with the idea that most exteriors would be shot before a potential actors strike. Warner Bros. is scheduled to release the action film in May. It comes from "Charlie's Angels" director Joseph "McG" Nichol.
The addition of Bonham Carter -- who received an Oscar nomination for 1998's "The Wings of the Dove" -- would bring a prestige element to a big summer crowd-pleaser.
"Salvation," however, wouldn't be the first event movie she has recently been in. Bonham Carter starred as Bellatrix Lestrange in Warners' 2007 "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" and is set to reprise that role in the franchise's next two films. She was in theaters last year with "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street."

Britney and the Boys Have a Sleepover

Los Angeles (E! Online) - While Kevin Federline partied in Miami Beach this weekend, Britney Spears stayed at home...with the kids! E! News can confirm that Britney had a 12-hour overnight visit with her two sons Saturday night at her Los Angeleshome.
"The kids were picked up before noon on Sunday," says a source.
It was Britney's first overnight visit since Spears lost visitation with her kids following her infamous visit to the UCLA psych ward in January. Commissioner Scott Gordon, after being presented evidence that Britney's mental health has improved, modified the terms of her visitation last week to allow overnight visits.
Meanwhile, K-Fed picked up where he left off in Las Vegas two weeks ago and partied at Miami nightclub Mansion on Friday night. Federline, who's reportedly working on a new song tentatively titled, "Daddy's Home," was scheduled to return home to LA on Sunday.

Madonna's mother-in-law denies divorce reports

Madonna's mother-in-law is on the attack following a deluge of reports that the Material Girl's marriage to Guy Ritchieis on the rocks.
There has been "no conversation about divorce because there is no divorce," Amber Leightontold Britain's Daily Mail.
Leighton also described reports that the couple have spoken to divorce lawyers as "works of fiction."
"They are no different to most other couples," she said. "We all know that being together can be hard sometimes and marriages are not always a bed of roses."
Although Madonna and Ritchie have been plagued with break-up rumors in the past, lately things have reached a feverish pitch.
The London Times reported last week that the Material Girl has met with attorney Fiona Shackleton, who represented Paul McCartney and Prince Charles in their respective divorces. Ritchie also reportedly consulted a lawyer.
Just days before, Britains The Mirror newspaper quoted a friend of the couple who said the two are planning to split in November after Madonna's Sticky 'n' Sweet world tour wraps.
Several publications took note when Madonna was spotted in New York this weekend without her wedding ring. However, Madge has often gone ringless - alongside her husband - in the seven years that couple have been married.
Madonna told MTV in 2005 that she wanted to leave Ritchie at one point. "I got married for all the wrong reasons," she said.Madonna's publicist has maintained that the couple is not getting divorced. Neither the singer nor Ritchie have publicly refuted the reports.

VMAs would consider second chance for Spears

LOS ANGELES - MTV isn't ruling out giving viewers more Britney Spears at this year's Video Music Awards. "Everyone deserves a second or third chance, right?" Van Toffler, president of MTV Networks Music Group, playfully told The Associated Press during a telephone interview Friday. When asked if he was just joking, Toffler said "sorta." "Who knows?" he said.
Spears' out-of-it "Gimme More" comeback performance during last year's MTV Video Music Awards at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas was one of the most-talked televised moments of 2007. The drama-filled VMAs drew 7.1 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research. Another Spears redux could equal even more eyeballs.
"I'm not sure how we top Britney opening the show," said Toffler. "We are working on it every minute of every day."
This year's MTV Video Music Awards will air live from Paramount Pictures Studios in Los Angeles on Sept. 7. (MTV and Paramount are corporate cousins within Viacom Inc.)
Toffler said the award show's performances will occur on the lot's various sound stages, rooftops and faux city streets.
"The backlot gives us versatility," said Toffler. "You can do street performances, on-top-of-building performances, on-the-side-of-a-building performances, inside-of-a-studio performances, so we're pretty excited."

Reports: Model dies in apparent suicide dive in NY

NEW YORK (AP) — A European Vogue cover model fell to her death from her Manhattan apartment building Saturday in an apparent suicide, published reports said.
Ruslana Korshunova, 20, died around 2:30 p.m. in a fall from a building on Water Street, in Manhattan's Financial District, The New York Post, the Daily News and Newsday reported. The newspapers cited unnamed officials and police.
Police said the fall was under investigation. Korushnova's New York agency and a spokeswoman for medical examiners did not immediately return telephone messages.
Originally from the former Soviet republic of Kazakhstan, the almond-eyed, flowing-haired Korshunova appeared in advertisements and on runways for such designers as Marc Jacobs, Nina Ricci and DKNY. British Vogue hailed her as "a face to be excited about" in 2005.
Her break came when modeling booker Debbie Jones noticed her while perusing an in-flight magazine article about Korushnova's hometown of Almaty, according to the Vogue report.
"She looked like something out of a fairytale!" Jones told the magazine. "We had to find her and we searched high and low until we did!"

Miley Cyrus Says She's 'Too Much' for Boys to Handle

Sorry, boys. Miley Cyrus says she's "too much to handle right now."
"I can't be quiet and cute for boys," Cyrus says in the July issue of Top of the Pops magazine, according to various reports. "I have to be a bit crazy."
The 15-year-old Disney star adds: "I'm too much to handle right now."
Cyrus also nixes the idea of having crushes on fellow Hollywood stars because "they're all getting old." Except one:
"Orlando Bloom is gorgeous," Cyrus admitted. "But he's a bit of a player."The singer-actress says she used to have a crush on teen heartthrob Jesse McCartney.
"In fact, the first song I ever wrote was about Jesse. He was on my show and I told him and he was like, ‘That’s so cute!'" she tells the magazine.
In late May, scandal erupted when Vanity Fair published photos of Miley Cyrus, taken by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz, where the teen was topless and covered with a cloth.
Miley's father, singer Billy Ray Cyrus, said he "didn't know they were going to strip her down and wrap her in a blanket."

Pop Tarts: Hulk Hogan Supervises Brooke's Sexy Men's Magazine Shoot

LOS ANGELES — Hulk Hogan makes no secret of the fact that he's ultra-protective of his 20-year-old daughter, Brooke Hogan, but he took things one step further when he turned up to her sexy magazine shoot for men's magazine Maxim in April, a source told Pop Tarts.
The July issue features the blonde beauty with a "come hither" expression as she's poised on beachside rocks in a bikini top with her tight jeans undone.
An insider told Pop Tarts that Hulk's appearance was a surprise to those on the set, and that he came to supervise and ensure his baby girl didn't flash too much flesh. But judging by the super-sexy outcome, we don't know how pleased daddy will be.Miss Hogan has been busy promoting her upcoming summer spin-off reality show, "Brooke Knows Best," and it seems she's happy to talk about more than just that.
In this week's edition of Us Weekly magazine, the aspiring actress/singer opens up about the troubles going on inside the reality TV family. We're assuming she'll have quite a bit to say, considering her parents are amid a bitter divorce (and her mother is apparently dating a 19-year-old) while her 17-year-old brother, Nick, is in the pokey and her father has been slammed for recent comments suggesting the passenger in Nick's car crash deserved to be left in a vegetative state.

Give Anne Hathaway's Ex Credit (Cards)

"Devil Wears Prada" star Anne Hathaway’s arrested (ex) boyfriend, Raffaelo Follieri, is being questioned about claims he made about ties to the Catholic Church and the Vatican
Well, there’s at least one Catholic group that liked him: The Society for Propagation of the Faith, a group of Catholic missionaries founded in 1822 by Pauline Jaricot.
Follieri is still advertising — through one of his websites — a Visa credit card registered with Washington Mutual that benefited that group which is supposed to be a charity designed, vaguely, to foster Catholic values.
But a check of charities registered with the name Society (etc.) comes up with very little. There are a couple of organizations listed through GuideStar, the charity registry, under that name. Only one, in Pittsburgh, has any money: $100,000 in net assets.

Nicole Richie's Amok in Chuck

Los Angeles (E! Online) - Nicole Richie's providing some fresh meat for Chuck. NBC just confirmed that Richie will be popping into the spy series for an episode in which she plays the former high school nemesis of resident babe Sarah, played by Yvonne Strahovski. (So very Lohan on Betty, right?) Richie plays a "snarky and spiteful girl who tortured Sarah," and something tells me she's gonna so regret that when she sees that Sarah can split hairs with a Ninja knife. (Hooray for catfights!)
"Nicole auditioned for the part and was very funny," says Chuck boss Josh Schwartz. "This role is a great opportunity for her to show off her comedic skills and be diabolically evil and kick some butt."

Cotillard and Cohen invited to become Oscar voters

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - A diverse group of actors -- including French Oscar winner Marion Cotillard and "Borat" star Sacha Baron Cohen -- have been invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The Academy said on Monday it issued invitations to 105 luminaries. Other notable names include Oscar-winning "Juno" screenwriter Diablo Cody, the film's director Jason Reitman, Ruby Dee, Josh Brolin, Allison Janney, Jet Li and Ray Winstone.
Each year, in order to replenish its ranks as members die or opt for nonvoting status, the 15 branches of the Academy endorse new candidates.
Under a membership policy adopted in 2004, the Academy has slowed growth in its ranks, which number just below the 6,000 mark. This year, the Academy could have sought out as many as 137 new members, but the branches chose to be more selective than that.
Cotillard won an Oscar this year for playing Edith Piaf in "La Vie en Rose." Reitman and Dee were also nominated this year, and Cohen was nominated last year for writing "Borat

DeGeneres' 4th Daytime Emmy not necessarily last

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Ellen DeGeneres has no plans to stop with her fourth consecutive Daytime Emmy for talk show host. DeGeneres picked up the honor Friday night during the 35th annual Daytime Emmy ceremony at Hollywood's Kodak Theatre. Rookie "Rachael Ray" cooked up a surprising win in the talk show category, beating veteran talk show winners "The View" and "The Ellen DeGeneres Show."
Would DeGeneres consider pulling an Oprah Winfrey and refrain from submitting herself for future honors?
"I'm not going to take my name out," DeGeneres deadpanned backstage. "Oprah has made so many bad choices. Look at her career."
"General Hospital," which celebrated its 45th anniversary this year, was honored with a record-breaking 10th drama Daytime Emmy. Anthony Geary, who plays Luke Spencer on the ABC show, took the lead actor honor, while Jeanne Cooper of CBS' "The Young and the Restless" won lead actress.
As host, DeGeneres again bested Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa from "Live with Regis and Kelly" — as well as Barbara Walters, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg and Sherri Shepherd from "The View," the 11th consecutive loss for the "View" ladies as hosts.
Other acting honors went to supporting actress Gina Tognoni of CBS' "Guiding Light"; supporting actor Kristoff St. John of "The Young and the Restless"; younger actor Tom Pelphrey of "Guiding Light"; and younger actress Jennifer Landon of CBS' "As the World Turns."
"I only made up my mind to come on Monday," said Cooper, who's been nominated for a lead actress trophy eight times but never won. "I'm glad I did."
Philbin, who's only won as talk show host once in the 20 years he's hosted "Live," took home one trophy, at least: the Lifetime Achievement Award. Jimmy Kimmel presented the award to the 76-year-old, whose career can be traced back to his days as an NBC page in the 1950s.
Kimmel joked that Philbin had logged 30 billion hours on TV as a host of talk, variety and game shows — and as the host of "Live" with his granddaughter Kelly.
"What a night," Philbin said during his acceptance speech. "Tyra Banks told me to kiss her big beautiful, and I found out that I'm older than the 'Guiding Light.'"
Banks picked up the first ever Daytime Emmy for informative talk show. Banks, "Dr. Phil" and PBS' "A Place of Our Own/Los Ninos en su Casa" — a daily show about child care that has English and Spanish versions — didn't have to spar with DeGeneres, "The View" or Ray for talk show this year thanks to the new category split.
"I want to thank Oprah Winfrey for her inspiration," Banks said. "She is the queen and will always be the queen."
Also new this year was the legal/courtroom program Daytime Emmy, which was awarded to "Cristina's Court." Formerly, "Judge Judy" competed in a special class category against shows like "Trading Spaces" and "A Baby's Story." This year, the veteran TV judge was joined by "Cristina's Court," "Judge Hatchett Show," "The People's Court" and "Judge David Young."
The behind-the-scenes teams of ABC's "One Life to Life" won both directing and writing team awards.
ABC shook up this year's ceremony by adding a new interactive element and a Golden Globes-style seating arrangement at Hollywood's Kodak Theatre. The live broadcast was co-hosted by Sherri Shepherd from "The View" and Cameron Mathison from "All My Children."
Instead of sitting in the Kodak's stuffy theater seats, nominees gathered around their own banquet tables and were allowed to feast on food and sip booze from an open bar. Digital video cameras were placed at the tables, with footage uploaded to SoapNet.com throughout the broadcast.
"There was a few people enjoying the free booze," co-host Mathison said in the press room.
After plummeting to an all-time low of 6.1 million viewers in 2006, last year's Daytime Emmy Awards were watched by 8.3 million people, the ceremony's best ratings since 2004, according to Nielsen Media Research. That scaled-down, two-hour Daytime Emmys aired on CBS after a rebroadcast of Bob Barker's final "Price Is Right" episode and featured the game show host receiving his 19th Daytime Emmy

OMG! SEE PICS Anne Hathaway wears Kate Winslet's Oscar dress (well almost)

Anna Hathaway arrived at Sunday's Oscars at the Kodak Theatre in LA in a fab red dress. Only trouble was, it was almost identical to the red Ben de Lisi gown that Kate Winslet wore in 2002.

Someone finally says no to Paris Hilton

Celebutantes beware! Impulse pooch purchases aren’t as easy as they used to be. Just ask Paris Hilton. According to the New York Post, someone actually had the nerve to turn down the love-em-and-leave-em pet collector when all she wanted was a cuddly prop, er, pup for her latest photo shoot. The nerve!
A Page Six spywitness caught everyone’s favorite heirhead at Melrose Avenue’s The Puppy Store desperate for a new Yorkie. (Maybe her last Yorkie, Cinderella, outgrew her cute phase, or went missing, or was reclaimed due to abandonment — whatever.) Allegedly Paris was en route to a photo shoot when she made the poochy pit stop, figuring a dog would make the perfect camera-ready accessory.
“(Paris) wanted a puppy in the picture with her so it would look cuter,” claimed the source. But when a store employee thought better of it and refused to part with the pup, “The Simple Life” star went “ballistic.” “She started screaming, ‘I love my puppies! I want my baby!’” the source said.

"Weeds" season debut sets Showtime ratings record

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Showtime's pot-themed comedy series "Weeds" started its fourth season off on a real high, becoming the network's most-watched telecast on record.Meanwhile, the new series "Secret Diary of a Call Girl," which led out of "Weeds" on Monday night, gave the network its most-watched series debut since 2004, when Nielsen began reporting Showtime ratings separate from Showtime Plex.
"Weeds" averaged 1.3 million total viewers at 10 p.m. Monday, which broke the record held by a Season 2 episode of "Dexter" (1.2 million) that aired in 2007. An 11 p.m. repeat of "Weeds" averaged 406,000 viewers, according to Nielsen.
"Weeds" has seen its season premieres grow from the start. The series bow pulled in 488,000 viewers, while Season 2's debut averaged 578,000 and Season 3 started out with 824,000.
After "Weeds," "Call Girl" also did well, dialing up 949,000 total viewers at 10:30 p.m. That beat the series debut of "The L Word" (936,000) in 2004. The last new series to launch in a post-"Weeds" time slot was the comedy "Californication," which drew 550,000 viewers in its August 13 bow.
Elsewhere, A&E's "Intervention" averaged 2.1 million viewers with its Season 5 bow at 9 p.m. Monday, marking the most-watched season premiere for the unscripted series. That included 1.5 million viewers in the adults 18-49 demographic and 1.4 million among adults 25-54.

Tommy Lee & Pam Anderson -- Doing It Again!

Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson seem to be back together again. Rolling Stone caught up with the Motley Crue drummer (who, I have to say, is kinda hot to me, in a dirty-hot sort of way), who was reportedly psyched to tell the reporters that he, his ex and their kids are all shacked up together.
“Pamela and the kids have moved in with me,” Tom said, at a rehearsal for the band's CrueFest tour. “It’s awesome, man. It’s definitely working. You can tell on the kids’ faces — they’re happy when we’re together.”
And though we've all been down this road a dozen times before, with these two crazy kids, Tommy's not giving up just yet. “We’ve only given it a try 800 times — 801, here we go.”
Awww, in a demented way I really feel that these two are meant to be. All is right with the world for this one moment.

Jen Aniston & John Mayer's Double Date

Johniston was out out in full, public force last night. Attending a party honoring charitable pal Jeffrey Sachs, Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer doubled with Courteney Cox and David Arquette at L.A. steakhouse STK.
I now declare them the new Awesome Foursome.
A spy told UsMagazine.com that J&J "had their arms around each other. She was rubbing his back and whispering into his ear. They were touching each other non-stop all night."
No word on how touchy-feel David and Court were -- even though they were the ones celebrating their nine-year wedding anniversary. Do you think Courteney went home and asked David, "How come you never rub me like that anymore?"
There really is nothing like new love....

Heigl Says No Thanks, Emmy, It's Undeserved

Katherine Heigl won't be chewing her manicure at this year's Emmy ceremony: She says she didn't seek a nomination because "Grey's Anatomy" failed to deliver the goods for an award-worthy performance.
Heigl, who was honored as best supporting actress in a drama last year for the ABC series, declined to put her name in consideration for a bid, a spokeswoman for the actress said Wednesday.
"I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination and in an effort to maintain the integrity of the academy organization" decided against competing, Heigl said in a written statement provided by her publicist, Melissa Kates, who was contacted by the AP.
"In addition, I did not want to potentially take away an opportunity from an actress who was given such materials," added Heigl. She plays Dr. Izzie Stevens on "Grey's Anatomy," which slipped in the ratings this past season but remained a top 10 show.

Lindsay Lohan Refuses to Submit Name for Emmys

HOLLYWOOD - Lindsay Lohan has taken her name out of the race for consideration at the forthcoming Emmy Awards--because her guest spot on Ugly Betty was too "brief." The actress landed a cameo role in the hit TV show, and was thus eligible to be nominated for the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series trophy. But Lohan insists she does not want to be put forward for the award just yet, because her character only graces the screen in one short scene. Her publicist Leslie Sloane tells the Los Angeles Times' Gold Derby blog, "The appearance was brief. We made a decision to wait." Instead, Lohan--who plays a bully on the program--will wait until the next season of Ugly Betty, when her character will have a more prominent role. NCIS Star Asks for Help in Finding Missing Friend

Los Angeles (E! Online) - She helps solve crimes on the CBS hit series NCIS and now actress Pauley Perrette is asking for the public's help in finding her missing friend. Perrette's friend Lami Nicole Powlesland, 24, was last seen Wednesday in Hollywood, and some of her personal possessions were found outside a popular outdoor workout spot.
"Her purse was found at one end of Runyon Canyon with all the contents in it; her jewelry was found in another part of Runyon Canyon," says Perrette, who plays criminologist Abby Sciuto on the show and happens to have a criminology degree in real life.
She added that Powlesland, who was recently released from a mental hospital in Tennessee, hasn't used her ATM or credit cards recently. No one has been able to locate her black 2008 Jeep Liberty.
Firefighters searched the park until 11 p.m. Saturday and resumed their search Sunday morning.

Kate & Lance Suffer Star-Power Outage in NYC

Los Angeles (E! Online) - We love star perks, but it's nice to know there are some hot spots stars can't muscle their way into. Case in point, the New York Post says Lance Armstrong and Kate Hudson dropped in for a bite at über-exclusive Rao's. The darling duo were turned away, perhaps unaware that people angle for a spot at one of the eight tables at this East Harlem eatery for longer than Lance used to train for the Tour de France. And apparently the road from Almost Famous to almost seated is even more arduous

Stars stay classy in glam gowns at Tony Awards

NEW YORK - It was a fashion disaster-free night at Sunday's Tony Awards, even though one actress lost her Chanel the night before. After an airliner lost her luggage — and dress — Alice Eve ("Rock 'n' Roll") said she remedied what could have been a disastrous situation by venturing Sunday to a Prada store for a replacement frock.
Eve's choice: A flapper-style dress in champagne-hued satin and black trim, and black and gold heels by Christian Louboutin, whose red-soled party shoes have become an awards show mainstay.
Martha Plimpton, nominated for featured actress in a play for "Top Girls," arrived with her father, actor Keith Carradine, at Radio City Music Hall in a silver mermaid dress designed by Carolina Herrera.
"I just wanted to look simple and striking — that's all I wanted, and Carolina's the perfect person for that," said Plimpton, wearing chandelier earrings from jeweler Fred Leighton.
Laura Bell Bundy, who portrays Elle Woods in the Broadway musical version of "Legally Blonde," wore an understated black dress with a lace bodice.
Unlike her fuschia-loving alter ego, Bundy was going for "anything other than pink. ... I was like, `Give me something black!'"
Also in black: presenter and Tony-winning actress Kristen Chenoweth, who went with a simple black gown by Nicole Miller and brought boyfriend Charlie McDowell as an accessory.
Presenter Marisa Tomei stepped up the drama in a sweeping red dress with embroidered black flowers, while Brooke Shields looked chic in a black sequin jumpsuit by Proenza Schouler.
Idina Menzel, who won the 2004 actress-musical Tony for "Wicked" and was in the original cast of "Rent," made a strong statement by pairing a strapless brown dress with a necklace of green and orange stones that looked like a shoulder strap.
Priscilla Lopez, who won a Tony in 1976 for "A Chorus Line" and now co-stars in "In the Heights," was all gold down to her ruffled gown, jacket, sandals and pearl necklace, offset with gold and diamond accents.
Laura Benanti, who won the featured actress-musical Tony Sunday night for her role of Louise in "Gypsy," donned a one-shoulder sequined cranberry gown by Marc Bouwer, and Kerry Butler ("Xanadu") glittered in a bright purple number by Elie Saab.
Amy Morton, nominated for best actress in a play for "August: Osage County," was statuesque in a long mauve-colored dress she "found in a store. ... It's a `nothing,'" said Morton, part of Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre troupe.
Morton hurried to the ceremony straight from a matinee of Tracy Letts' Tony winning best play, and barely had time to change clothes.
"I just came down an hour ago, so it was, `Get dressed as fast as you can and get over here' — which is good; you don't have time to think about it," she said, before heading
